Appointment of Club President – John Martin MBE

As you will be aware just before COVID we lost our Club President, David Pascoe MBE, who was our president for over 30 years.
Following David’s passing the committee set out to seek a new president and during those initial discussions John Martin MBE was put forward.

In the history of the club, we have only had one President, the role is an honorary position of a well-respected person who supports the club with ceremonial duties, honours, presentations and fundraising.

I am very please to write that in April 2024 the club committee unanimously agreed to ask John Martin MBE to become the Portreath Surf Life Saving Club’s 2nd President, which he gladly accepted.

When Club Chairman David Green wrote to John asking him to become President, he replied: ‘Well what an honour to be invited to take up the role of President of Portreath Surf Life Saving Club. When I read your letter it brought a big tear to my eye. But it does mean so much that the Committee feels that even in the current circumstances it could be a good thing to ask me. I am truly feeling humble in being asked’.

As someone who joined the club as a teenager, worked tirelessly for surf life saving in Great Britain, Europe and the World and gone on to be one of the most respected figures in International Lifesaving, we could not ask for a better, more respected ambassador to be our President.
