Club Member Charlie to the Rescue

Club member and GBR athlete, Charlie Haynes, had to put his lifesaving skills into action today. Charlie assisted 3 people back to the beach who were caught in a rip tide. Read the Cornwall Live story here
Please remember while you are enjoying this weather there are no RNLI lifeguards on some of the beaches. If you see someone in trouble please phone 999 and ask for coastguard

Youth Round Up 2023

On the 16th September we celebrated the season for the Youth section. Congratulations to all those that received a trophy.

Message from Youth Manager Danny Marsh
“Well that’s another season done & dusted, well done to all our Youth members this year you’ve trained hard and deserve all your rewards.
With some very challenging conditions this year in competition & training you all stepped up and showed off your skills.
Early in the season we retained our Cornish Stillwater title followed by 7th at Nationals, the Cornish at Polzeath was tricky with very challenging conditions, but you raced well and came away 3rd overall.
Then is was time for the main event, Nationals at Branksome Chimes with some fantastic racing over the 2 days. For a small team you were all fantastic finishing 5th place overall.
So well done everyone, whether you were new to the club, racing for the 1st, making a final, scoring your 1st points for the team or gaining your 1st medal, every single one of you have done yourselves and the club proud.
As always thank you to the coaches, the cake bakers the competition helpers, all this is not possible without you!!”

Portreath SLSC Presentation Evening 2021

Dear Members

Club Presentation Evening 🎉
Save the date – Saturday 27th November 2021, 6pm at the clubhouse. The club will be having its annual presentation evening, AGM and end season party with live music and of course the bar open from 6pm. The club will also be putting on food (Chilli Nachos, plus veg option), £3 contribution.
As always with the AGM the club is looking for members to join the committee in any role, the more members we have on the committee the more the workload can be shared and can contribute to maintaining Portreath as the best lifesaving club in the UK. Please do give me a call if you are interested in joining the committee.
We look forward to seeing everyone on the 27th 🍻

Waiting List for Nippers/Sandhoppers

Children are eligible to join our Sandhoppers section the summer they turn 7, then progress to Nippers the following year up until the age of 13. We train Friday evenings throughout the year, on the beach in the summer and at Redruth Swimming pool in the winter.

There is a swim requirement of 50m without stopping or touching the sides when they join Nippers. (This increases for older age groups)We strongly advise swimming lessons to be taken alongside Nipper training as we teach surf lifesaving skills which are supplementary to swimming.Names for children wanting to join Sandhoppers can only be taken the summer before a child is old enough to join.

Please note siblings of Nippers who are current members will get priority.. Waiting lists for current age groups are extremely long so at this time we are only taking names for next year’s Sandhopper intake (children born 2015)

Please contact Portreathnippers@outlook.com if you require further information.

Lifeguard Proficiency Training

GLP remaining training session:

17th & 24th October run by Rob (Water assessment on the 24th)

7th & 21st Nov run by me (first aid assessment on the 21st Oct).

Next (and last for this year) members lifeguard proficiency – 21st Nov. I will post more details of this on the FB groups.

Also, I would be grateful for any feedback on the current lifeguard proficiency format which is a recap on most parts of the award then a sample assessment. If we just did a sample assessment it would be much quicker but perhaps some people like to have the time to have a quick practice. Any comments welcome on this and can be sent to me directly or via the committee.
