Youth Winter Swimming 2020

***Winter Pool Schedule***
Please find the Youth team pool schedule for winter training below starting after October half term (w/c Mon 2nd Nov). We have a much bigger team this year with an amazing 19 nipper juniors joining us, plus restrictions on lane numbers with Covid guidelines. In light of this we have added extra sessions to accommodate everyone and had to reduce the overall session time. We’ll review this as we go along.
We understand some of you may have other commitments that you’d rather do on your allocated youth night. If this is the case, please let me know if you cannot attend regulary. With over 70 youth, all with different abilities and a wide age spectrum we can’t guarantee that we can swap you to another session, but when we have all the information we will look at this.
Wednesday
7.45-8.35 (50mins) U17 & U19 those born 2005 upwards
(FYI Open/Masters follows this session)
Thursday
8pm-8.45pm U13’s (45mins)
8.45pm-9.30pm U15’s (45mins)
**Extra surf squad session**
Monday 8pm-9.30pm – 16’s+ those born 2005 upwards
(This session may be opened up to 15+ depending on numbers.)
We’re really pleased that your lead coach for pool training will be George Haynes again, who as usual will put you through your paces! Some of your usual parent coaches will also be there.
Full details and Covid guidelines will be released nearer to the time.
Outdoor winter sessions will be announced separately.
Any questions please comment on this post or send me a message on Facebook or email me on stevenfarnell@me.com

Nippers 2020

Message from our Nipper Manager
That’s all folk!!
Sadly we have come to the end of our beach sessions for this year. When we finally got going again we had a great summer, I think the Nippers have really benefited from the small groups and have gained in confidence and improved surf skills. Shame the weather conditions worked against us in the end!! 💨🌊☔️
Massive thanks to all the coaches for all their hard work in tricky times, would not happen without them 👏👏
We are hoping to be back in the pool the Friday after half term, we are getting all the plans in place and I am working on the groups at the moment so watch this space!!
Lastly a big well done and good luck to our 13s as they move on to the youth section of the club. Sorry we couldn’t give you your last Nipper year you all deserve, but one things for sure you will always remember this year!! 😢
Dan

Portreath SLSC Voluntary Patrols

Portreath SLSC would like to thank all the members who have volunteered for Patrols this year. We started strong in the spring of 2020 providing valuable patrols for the safety of our local community.
🏄🏄
With October half term fast approaching the club is looking to provide Patrols to cover the busy times down on the beach. If you have your lifeguard or beach warden award, please consider helping.
💦🌊
It would be great if we could provide a Level 4 Patrol on the weekends with a surveillance patrol during the weekdays. The level of patrol will vary depending on volunteer availability.
Please check out the Club Facebook page if you are able to help.

Club President

For all our past and present Club members, Mr David Pascoe MBE, our Club President for more than 25 years passed away on Friday 31st May.

David has always been passionate about the village of Portreath and our Surf Life Saving Club, he has always supported the club at meeting and events that we have held.

Our thoughts at this time are with Paola and all David’s family.

New Membership System

Portreath SLSC is moving forward with a new membership system this year, as this is new to us it is work in progress as we all get used to it. As we were not ready before Christmas a number of members have already paid the membership by BACS or to Melissa, so this email is to explain about the system and how you need to log in and create an account with your details. A parent need to use their email address and all family members can be put on one account. We will also be using the system for you to register for the competitions through the year.

Matt has given us background information to the system and details for the members how to log in and set up an account:

Portreath SLSC are working with ClubMembership.cloud to streamline their membership administration. It takes up a lot of the club volunteers time to manage the membership; cross referencing payments, collating and securely storing members information and sharing the information with the club managers.

The aim of the ClubMembership system is to simplify the membership administration for both the club members and the volunteers. This is done via a cloud based system that securely stores and backs-up information as well as processing and allocating payments for memberships and events.

On the top of the screen click on to the Members Log in and it will take you to the membership page.

For members that HAVE already joined for 2018
1. Go to https://portreathslsc.clubmembership.cloud/join
2. Set up an account for yourself
3. Within the My Membership > Portreath SLSC – Annual Membership section, add your partner and children information if applicable.

Once you have added all the relevant family members we will set up the membership on your behalf as you have already paid. Please email hello@clubmembership.cloud once you have added you families information.

You can also pay for Board/Ski Storage if applicable or enter events once they have been set up.

Celebration at Broad Lane Co-op.

Countdown to Celebration Day

You may be aware that Portreath SLSC Graduate Lifeguard project is one of three local causes to benefit from the CO-OPs current Local Community Fund. It looks like we will receive between £700 and £800 to purchase relevant equipment.

The Broad Lane CO-OP Branch are planning a celebration day on 25th November and would like some or all of our Graduate Lifeguards to attend in their uniforms for Photos, cheque presentation, cake cutting etc. They can take flyers etc to promote the club.

It would be excellent for the club to attend to say thank you but also as the Manager told me that we have been put forward again by his store for the next round.

There’s only a month to go until we celebrate the latest payout of the Local Community Fund on Saturday 25 November. This is the perfect time to show how your cause is helping to make a difference in your community.

If you can attend the celebration day on 25 November, just contact your local food store so you can start planning the day. To help you with ideas, check out this handy guide which gives hints and tips on how to engage with our members and customers, as well as making the most of social media.

Exciting news

We’ll be making a big announcement and we wanted to share our exciting news with you first. Co-op Members will have helped raise an amazing £20 million since September 2016, which has supported over 8,000 local causes.

Celebration day will be a great opportunity to thank our members for choosing to support your cause. We hope you have a great celebration day and we look forward to seeing your photos and social media posts.

Thank you,

The Local Community Fund Team

We salute you Emma & Nikki and thank you for everything that you do for us.

Graduate Lifeguard Update

Alongside a busy summer training and racing, a group of Portreath SLSC youth members have been working on the Graduate Lifeguard Programme.  They are all aiming to become beach lifeguards in the future and each module on the programme gives them the skills to achieve this. Leading up to summer the group worked on creating beach awareness and safety presentations to deliver to younger children.  Working in smaller groups they delivered some fantastic presentations, educating children about the flags on the beach, sea and sand safety and what to do in an emergency.  Schools, cub groups and other Community organisations received these talks and hopefully the children took some valuable knowledge with them when using the beach this summer.  Moving on from this the group learnt how to rescue someone using a Peterson tube and have put these skills into action by helping the club sessions by being water safety cover. For the older graduates, first aid has been their priority, covering CPR, bandaging  and currently mastering the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) and Oxygen. A very good start to the GLP from some budding lifeguards.

Over the winter months we are planning a Coastal Surveillance Course as well as a First Aid course for all the Graduates, hoping some of our senior members will join in so that the club can provide additional coastal patrols next year.
