Piran Phillips takes Australia by storm

The World Lifesaving Championships 2024 got underway on 28th August with our Vice Captain Piran Phillips selected as a member of the GBR team. Piran paddled his way the the final of the Ski and after a blistering start he lead the race, out paddling some of the best paddlers in the world.  He dominated throughout, but the wave gods were not kind and despite Piran breaking away from the pack with only 15m to the finish, he found himself in dead water and the following pack got a lucky break with a wave carried them them past him. Despite finishing 5th Piran definiately gained the respect of his fellow competitors and the Surf Life Saving Community down under.

Still fired up after from the World Championships, on the 14th October Piran took on the the iconic Coolangatta Gold in its 40th Anniversary event. Consisting of an epic 23km ski, 1km beach run, 3.5km swim, 6.1km board paddle and a 8.2km beach run to the finish line. Piran Phillips raced in this event representing our Australian sister club North Burleigh. Since the World Champs Piran had been putting in the kilometres to prepare for the event.  Piran did himself and us proud and left it all out there over the 42km course.

Next Piran takes on the World Ocean Series. We wish him all the best in the series.
